Handicap Chairman Information:

We are fortunate again to have Howard Boyd as the clubs Handicap Chairman – Howard will be looking to achieve the following objectives this year which he believes will make our men's associated both enjoyable and competitive:

 1) Howard’s first objective is become more familiar/certified in the USGA Handicap System.

2) Develop rules/duties/responsibilities for adhering to the USGA Handicap System

3) Comprise a formal committee that will oversee responsible for all aspects of the USGA Handicap System, including the computation of each member’s Handicap Index.

Howard will keep everyone posted as he works thru above.  He looks forward to seeing everyone soon!

Driving Range Safety Rules !!!

You may not hit clubs on the range that land beyond 220 yards. The sign on the range states you may not hit drivers but some players should not hit other woods either if they land beyond the range confines. It is the distance the ball flies not the club used that is of consequence.  If you notice someone hitting balls beyond 220 yards - balls which land just short of the cart path on 17, please let them know it is unacceptable or inform a golf employee. Some players balls have been landing close to grounds crew workers too often and someone will get hit especially Saturday and Sunday mornings while maintenance is preparing the course for play. Many players cannot hit drivers that carry over 200 yards especially with the limited flight balls we use at Grassy Hill CC. It is acceptable for those players to use drivers or woods.

The person who hits the shot is PERSONALLY RESPONSIBLE if someone or something gets hit (Whether during regular play on the course, if a ball hits a car on the street or parking lot, if a ball strikes a worker on the course or a ball you hit damages any thing or any one) . It is your responsibility to get the attention of a worker on the course when you are playing and wait until they are safely out of range.  If you are noticed hitting balls beyond the limits of the range, especially if there are people playing 17 or workers on 17, you will be asked to leave.

Our driving range is a limited area. Sometimes players on 10 or 18 hit balls close to the out of bounds markers on the range and are searching for balls within reach of your shots. Players on the course have right of way. You must wait until it is safe to hit balls in that situation and remember - YOU ARE PERSONALLY RESPONSIBLE if someone gets injured by a ball you hit. ALSO, please adjust your aim accordingly if you are hitting balls into the 18th fairway or 10th fairway.

Please enjoy your practice but practice safely.

Thank you for your cooperation, Glenn Dobieski .

===============================================

Etiquette - Courtesy on the Course

Safety - Prior to playing a stroke or making a practice swing, the player should ensure that no one is standing close by or in a position to be hit by the club, the ball or any stones, pebbles, twigs or the like that may be moved by the stroke or swing.

Consideration for Other Players -The player who has the honor should be allowed to play before his opponent or fellow-competitor tees his ball.  No one should move, talk or stand close to or directly behind the ball or the hole when a player is addressing the ball or making a stroke. No player should play until the players in front are out of range.

Pace of Play - In the interest of all, players should play without delay.  If a player believes his ball may be lost outside a water hazard or out of bounds, to save time, he should play a provisional ball.  Players searching for a ball should signal the players behind them to pass as soon as it becomes apparent that the ball will not easily be found. They should not search for five minutes before doing so. They should not continue play until the players following them have passed and are out of range.

PLEASE . . . .NO CELL PHONES DURING PLAY

New - Single Players List

As a nice perk for our association an in an effort to help fill up our tee time slots, Glenn Dobieski and his staff have agreed to implement a Singles Waiting List at the front desk. You can get your name on it by using the normal Sat/Sun slips filled out with your full name and a phone number where you can be reached during daytime hours or you can call the pro shop directly at 203-795-1422 .  As part of the tee time process, they will try to make up new 4-somes and/or use names to complete groups currently with less than 4 players.  They will call you to confirm any arrangements they make. If your group loses a player during the week, call the pro shop asap so they can try to fill the open slot.

This is a terrific "Country Club Like" service that is being offered, so take advantage of it.  It's a great way for new members to get games and meet other members, fill up the open slot with members so you can participate in the 4 man tournaments and reduce the come early and see if something opens up routine.

The pro shop will confirm all arrangements with you by phone with the number that you provided.  If you don't get a call then you can assume that a match was not made and you can still come early and hope for no shows. Once you submit your name to the singles list you then have the same responsibilities as everyone else, you must notify the pro shop if you can't play so they can remove you from the list.
